Spring Game Weekend

Last weekend was a doosey for sure. Crammed back to back with stuff to do, but overall a great time.

It all started when I got a call from my friend Alison at around 11:30 am on Friday telling me she HAD to get out of town (she lives in the Tampa area) and asked if it was cool if she crashed at my place. OF COURSE. I love when friends from out of town, but I was even more excited because I just so happened to be moving the next morning and an extra set of arms/legs to help move would be fine by me!

That night happened to be the lead up to Saturday's big FSU Football Spring Game (Garnet and Gold game), so accordingly there was a traditional "Downtown Getdown". Basically Tallahassee shuts down the down town area, puts food and drink vendors about and there is always at least one stage of live music.

Good times had by all. Especially since Jake Owens, who happens to be a FSU alumni (!) was scheduled to perform.

I didn't get any good shots of him on stage because I am short, was not near the front, and I only had my camera phone. Picture taking fail!

After the concert we went to a few of our favorite bars and sadly I may have had one too many martini's. I felt HORRIBLE the next day. I was a pathetic loser who could barely walk, let alone move anything. Thank God for amazing friends and an awesome boyfriend who did the moving. I am eternally grateful!

Later in the day when I had regained mobility and the ability to not feel like roadkill, we went to the Spring Game to watch our noles. It was a BEAUTIFUL day, which also means it was super sunny. Which means Alison adn I got fried, lol. We put on sunscreen repeatedly, but this is what happened to poo Alison when she lifted my necklace off her chest that she borrowed from me.

Of course I had a great time. I got to hang out with my favorite football freak Coach, Vic Viloria. He of course was in standard uniform with his black FSU shirt and khaki pants. Good ole' Vic.
After the game we were all pretty wiped out. We went and got dinner and calle dit an early night. Such party animals, I know.
The next day was spent getting brunch at Angelette's. If you have not been here, you are out of your mind. Absolutely delicious and such a bargain! After some shopping we parted ways with out visitor and back home to do laundry and other things that needed to be done. It wasn't a CRAZY weekend, but it was a damn fine one.

I WISH I could take credit for the following stunt pulled at the University of Florida gators football Spring Game....



There’s been some hub-bub today over a flyover at Florida’s spring game that included a banner that read: “31-7 Go Noles!”
The numbers were, of course, in reference to last year’s Florida State-Florida game that saw the Seminoles come out on top of their hated rivals to the southeast. As of now, there is no clear indication who came up with the idea of the plane and banner, but rumblings and rumors are joyously roiling away inside Seminole Nation as we speak. That said, there probably are many who would like to claim credit for the prank.
One thing is clear. Neither one of the guys in the video below had a part in the festivities. They were inside Doak Campbell Stadium, going through their own workouts when the Gators took to The Swamp for their annual “Orange and Blue” spring game this afternoon.

I am iron man....

well, maybe not quite, but I did go to an Iron Pour!

What exactly is that you ask? In the simplest of terms, its when craftsmen burn down metal/iron/steel into liquid form, then pour it into pre-determined molds. When its cooled off you have new solid iron pieces or art/workmanship.

My boyfriend, Jason, used to go to iron pours often when he was an undergrad at FSU 5-7 years ago, and still has connections to the FSU Master Craftsman Studio (the people who control the iron pour). His buddy invited him to one last weekend, and I tagged along to watch and even participate a little.

I didn't have my beloved Nikon DSLR with me, but I had my backup canon "point and shoot" and managed to snag a few photos I really enjoyed.

How sweet it is....

I'm in a super awesome mood today. Why? Because FSU Men's Basketball just won and are going to the SWEET SIXTEEN in the NCAA tourney. They haven't made it that far in 18 years! It makes me proud. Even though them winning kinda ruined my bracket a little....but totally worth it. I guess its not all bad though considering everyone else in my fantasy bracket did what I did, so I am STILL the overall number one. Boo-ya!

Great job Guys! Can't wait to see you play VCU Friday @9:57pm.

FSU just released the contract amounts for all it's assistant coaches for the football team. Clearly I should've gone the way of the athletic coaching route....

*Rundown of new contracts signed by FSU's assistant coaching staff:

Vic Viloria - 3-year term. Base salary $176K (He's the MAN!)

	Gene Williams - Warchant.com
	Mark Stoops and Greg Hudson are among the coaches that received raises.

D.J. Eliot - 2-year term. Base salary $192.5K

Damayune Craig - 2-year term. Base salary $192.5K

Eddie Gran - 3-year term. Base salary $205K + $130.5K for speaking engagements/public appearances, etc.

Greg Hudson - 2-year term. Base salary $205K + $130.5K for speaking engagements and public appearances, etc.

James Coley - 3-year tearm. Base salary $205K + $130.5K for speaking engagements and public appearances, etc.

Lawrence Dawsey - 2-year term. Base salary $205K + $37K for speaking engagements and public appearances, etc.

Mark Stoops - 3-year term. Base salary $205K + $235K for speaking engagements and public appearances, etc.

Odell Haggins - 2-year term. Base salary $205K + $70K for speaking engagements and public appearances, etc.

Oh and in case you were wondering, Head Coach Jimbo Fisher makes $1.8 million base salary from the university, $4,000 from non-university compensation, with a possible maximum bonus(per year) of $675,000.
That's  $2,479,000 PER YEAR.

I cannot wait until Friday February 18th @ 4pm for baseball to finally start back! I get all excited just looking at all the practice photos at Mike Martin Field. i can practically smell the hotdogs, feel the warm Tally breeze and hear the Section B Animals in the stands.

In college I joined my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. Some people who meet me are shocked by this, some not. I take it as a compliment either way, so it's all good. I am very grateful for my years as an active sister in Kappa and wouldn't change a thing. Especially since some of my best friends I still have today, including all the girls in the photos from NYE, are from the sorority.

FSU Seminoles laid a whoopin' on the gators last Saturday and this fan could not be any happier. Actually, I can because Maryland beat NC State and now FSU is going to the ACC Championship. It's like Christmas for Thanksgiving this year! Now if I can only manage to get tickets AND get my happy butt up to Charlotte, NC for the game this weekend...

A tribute to Vic Viloria

Most people may be saying who is Vic Viloria? But those who are Seminole nation obsessed like moi will know this guy is a badass. Okay, maybe not the most professional way of putting it out there, but I feel a guy as cool and as awesome for the FSU football program should be called nothing less.
So who IS Vic Viloria? I feel there are two ways to describe this man; one, the professional bio and two, the way myself and the way the rest of the Seminole nation should.

Coaching Background
• Vic Viloria joined Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher's staff in January 2010 from SMU - his alma mater - where he spent the previous three seasons as the head strength & conditioning coach.
• Viloria spent the previous two years as an assistant strength coach at LSU under the supervision of Tom Moffitt, working with the Tigers' nationally-ranked football and baseball programs, as well as the swimming and golf teams.
• A disciple of renowned weightlifting coach Gayle Hatch, Viloria endorses the "Hatch System" which develops functional and explosive strength in players through the use of free weights, plyometrics and jumping drills.
• Viloria was a four-year letter winner at linebacker for SMU and a three-time member of the All-Western Athletic Conference team. He led the Mustangs in tackles each of final three seasons and recorded at least 10 tackles in 21 games over the course of his career.
• He was a member of the NFL Europe's Scottish Claymores.
• Viloria is certified by USA Weightlifting.
• Married to former SMU sprinter and track assistant Randi Taylor, the Viloria's have two daughters, Taylor Ann and Mady.

And then there is the way I see him

This is a man who LOVES his job. He loves his team. He will do whatever he can during a game to make sure the players know exactly how he feels and to make sure they are just as pumped as he is. Hell, you could say he was even trying to be a cheerleader. Constantly jumping up and down in his signature black shirt, arms waving and motioning for the crowd to get LOUD. It warms my heart to see a coach to full of spirit and gusto in a game. He does not care what the score is. We can be down 10 or up 31-0 and he has the same intensity, the same energy about making sure our boys (and the fans for that matter) are on their A game.
You can clearly see from my diagram the level of awesome this man brings to the game:

I think one of the real reasons why I love having this new coach, besides the obvious talent he brought to the strength and conditioning side of football, is seeing him and our Head Coach, Jimbo Fisher, have PASSION for our team, our game. When was the last time we saw ole Bobby get really lit up about something, get in an Ref's face, scream his lungs out. Watching Jimbo get all lit up(and rightly so) over the very flagrant and dangerous facemask penalty on receiver Bert Reid during the BYU game.

 

Jimbo lost his S*%!, as did the rest of the stadium. The Ref's didn't call the penalty and Jimbo was NOT having it:

What you don't see (and darnit I wish I had taken a pic myself!) was other coaches and staff trying to pull Jimbo off the Refs. At first you can tell Vic was going the way of controlled coach and was one of the ones trying to calm him down, but after (what appeared) to be the refs refusing to do a thing over a BYU player almost decapitating an FSU player , Mr. Vic turned to the crowd (who was loudly booing) and started to encourage them. I do believe I even saw fist pumping while standing on a bench during a "Jimbo, Jimbo, Jimbo" chant echoed in the stands. I seriously felt my heart swell with pride. Here my team was, full of passion, pride, and concern for OUR team. I seriously felt like a parent watching their kid score their first touchdown at that moment.

I cannot remember the last time Bobby would've dared done this. All I remember the last few years is him mumbling some dad-gums, looking disappointed, and him at the OPPOSITE side of the field from where the action was going on. I am, and will forever be, a Bobby Bowden lover. The man did amazing, great things for FSU Football- hell the school- but we needed passion again, and he couldn't provide it anymore.

Memories!

The above ring is of Ryan Sprague, who was an FSU football walk-on in 1996. He earned a scholarship by the end of his first year, and started every game of the 1999 12-0 season. Sprague is selling a book he wrote titled "Grateful: From Walk-on to Winning it All at Florida State", and the forward is written by Bobby Bowden.

I personally knew Ryan from about 98 to 2000. He is an amazing person and a lot of what he (and his now wife) said to me while I was a member of the church youth group has stuck with me through the years. He and and his wife are examples of truly great people. And, no, they have no idea I am writing this.
