Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the crowd.....

You hear that? That's FSU baseball season calling once again!

I cannot wait until Friday February 18th @ 4pm for baseball to finally start back! I get all excited just looking at all the practice photos at Mike Martin Field. i can practically smell the hotdogs, feel the warm Tally breeze and hear the Section B Animals in the stands.
I hope to see you all there!

MMMMM, Beer

If you had to pick a beer to represent each state, what would you pick? Personally, i'd pick Natty light for Florida because of all the college kids and drunken shenanigans on the beaches.....but apparently the map below disagrees, lol.

This is my new boyfriend*insert swear word*, he's probably a serial killer or going to be killed....

I am a huge Dexter fan. I love that show. I never thought I'd be a big fan of a show that is based around a serial killer, but I guess stranger things could happen, right? I saw this clip floating around on the interwebs earlier and had to share. Bascially it's Dexter explained in 60 seconds....if you have EVER seen an episode you will love this.

(not gonna lie, best part is the "masooka" character popping up out of nowhere)

You can file this under "WTF?!"

I don't know about you, but I think people/idiots are getting a little desperate to get high nowadays. I just don't understand why anyone would think that SNORTING BATH SALTS is a good idea?
One can only imagine the arguments surrounding the people who actually do this.....

Hmmmm, pass the good stuff to the left man!

NO not the tropical island , the Hawaiian breeze salts!!!

Why are people so dumb?

memories from my childhood

Well, the following pictures aren't exactly and EXACT showing of my childhood, but you will get the idea. I know I am not the only one around here who grew up in the late eighties/early nighties and had "My Little Pony" toys. My sister was constantly taking them from me, and honestly think they may have been "hers", much to my chagrin. Well, someone has gone and given the ponies some "pop idol" make-overs. After the next few pictures there is a link to see the rest of them.

lady gaga never looked so good with a tail

Who watches the Watchmen?

Beam me up!

Comes with it's very own invisible jet.....

Touching picture for Tuesday

This picture got to me:

As the death toll from devastating flooding in Brazil continues to rise, a single picture drives home the sense of loss.
Leao, a medium-sized brown mutt,  lies next to the grave of her owner, Cristina Maria Cesario Santana, who died in the catastrophic landslides caused by heavy rain.  This AFP/Getty picture was taken on Saturday, the second consecutive day that the dog refused to leave the woman's grave at the cemetery in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janiero.
Brazilians are bracing for more rain, fearing more landslides after waves of muddy water swallowed towns in the country's worst flood disaster on record.
At least 655 deaths were reported in a mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro state, northeast of the city of Rio.

More pictures!

Last week the boy and I went to a place here in town called Maclay Gardens. Even though it's winter here and the gardens are not in full bloom, there are still amazing things to see and take pictures of. Plus, I wanted an excuse to whip out my new 55-200mm lens I got for Christmas. I cannot wait to go back in the spring and take more photos with everyhting blooming.

Caught ya! A little blurry, but I love it anyways.

Too cute not to post

In college I joined my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. Some people who meet me are shocked by this, some not. I take it as a compliment either way, so it's all good. I am very grateful for my years as an active sister in Kappa and wouldn't change a thing. Especially since some of my best friends I still have today, including all the girls in the photos from NYE, are from the sorority.

A sister of mine found this video from Baylor University and I had to share it too. it's just to cute. Gotta love college co-eds that can rap....or try anyhow :)

the original video that started it all:

and then the follow up:

This is from a skit performed on one of the recruitment days at FSU on "SKit day". I help write and perform this skit 5 years ago for the original. It's been tweaked since, but it makes me feel good they still use it

And a a couple of videos of Kappa performing at CHeers for Charity and Linedancce competition from last year. I only wish I could've been there for these.

Happy New Year! (11 days late...)

I have never really been one for New Year's Resolutions. Sure I think about how I might want to change a few things here and there, but actual, steadfast resolutions? Nah. I guess a few things I would like to see in the new year though would be a more "fit" me and possibly a new job. I gotta work on my arms, a.k.a my guns, before my sister's wedding in November. So I figure I got enough time....I hope... :) damned sleeveless bridesmaid dress.

I hope everyone had an awesome New year's, I know I did.

Myself and one of my best friends, Tess

Myself and my handsome man

All the girls, love them!

Told you I had a good time.

Happy Christmas to me!

A little late, I know, but I received an Amazon gift card and have been debating and debating what to buy myself. Finally decided that I needed some really nice, high quality heels. I've been eyeballing a few pair but finally decided on some deliciously wonderful DV for Dolce Vita Pumps.

BEHOLD!

DV by Dolce Vita Women's Maiya Pump, in brown tweed pattern no less.

I'm in love!

I may have also purchased the Tretorn Skerry Vinter rain boots in Olive Green as well..... :)

don't you just LOVE the fur lining?! Ugh, I may have an online shopping addiction....

Awesome website is awesome

If have EVER been a member of a forum, or gossip website - hell, any semi- popular blog I'm sure at some point you've seen this dawson crying meme:

Well james Van Der Beek has out done himself with creating his own "james Van der Memes" web site.

IT. IS. AWESOME

My Mimi

As I have already mentioned before in this blog here, I have grown up with what most people consider "older" parents. My parents met and married later in life than most, with my father being 9 years older than my mother on top of that. Add onto that my parents having trouble with having kids and I was not born until 7/8 years after they were married. Because of this my grandparents were much older than conventional grandparents, or in one case, already in severe failing health. By the time I was 7 both my father's parents had passed( with me never knowing his father) and before I was out of junior year of high school I only had my Grandmother, Mimi.

Now let me tell you about Mimi. Mimi is a badass. Yes, I said it. She is. My mother's mother to be exact. She is of Cherokee Indian decent, about 4 foot 10 and a ball of spitfire. She is currently 96 years young and still going strong. She lived on her own until she was 92 (with the help of nurses a few times a week) until we finally decided it was no longer safe for her to do so. Thankfully we did this in time before late-age onset Dementia set in. While most would think Dementia, or often mistakenly diagnosed Alzheimer's disease, would make us distraught or upset, but I actually feel the opposite. She is happier than she has been in years and in no way knows that she has little hearing left, is blind as a bat and cannot walk around much at all any more. She's is content in her own world that sometimes correctly includes my family, but most of the time does not. She always remembers our family yellow lab, Jackson, though. She loves her daily therapy dog visits. The Assisted Living Facility graciously allowed my mother to bring the old yellow lab for everyone to pet and love on once he passed therapy dog regulations. All the old men there can't wait to see his wagging tail and big brown eyes everyday.

But back to why I originally posted this blog entry - This morning I came across another blog here and was struck by the article posted. This article was describing my Grandmother. To the T. My grandmother has to have her daily chocolate/ice cream and is constantly carrying around "her baby" (a baby doll my mother gave her). As long as she has these, she is as pleased as punch. The article from the blog post is a must read for anyone who has does or ever had a parent/grandparent with Dementia and/or Alzheimer's.

I wish more Assisted Living facilities were more like the one mentioned in the article and the one my Grandmother is thankfully in.

An excerpt form the article below:

Giving Alzheimer’s Patients Their Way, Even Chocolate

PHOENIX — Margaret Nance was, to put it mildly, a difficult case. Agitated, combative, often reluctant to eat, she would hit staff members and fellow residents at nursing homes, several of which kicked her out. But when Beatitudes nursing home agreed to an urgent plea to accept her, all that changed.

Disregarding typical nursing-home rules, Beatitudes allowed Ms. Nance, 96 and afflicted with Alzheimer’s, to sleep, be bathed and dine whenever she wanted, even at 2 a.m. She could eat anything, too, no matter how unhealthy, including unlimited chocolate.

And she was given a baby doll, a move that seemed so jarring that a supervisor initially objected until she saw how calm Ms. Nance became when she rocked, caressed and fed her “baby,” often agreeing to eat herself after the doll “ate” several spoonfuls.

Dementia patients at Beatitudes are allowed practically anything that brings comfort, even an alcoholic “nip at night,” said Tena Alonzo, director of research. “Whatever your vice is, we’re your folks,” she said.

Once, Ms. Alonzo said: “The state tried to cite us for having chocolate on the nursing chart. They were like, ‘It’s not a medication.’ Yes, it is. It’s better than Xanax.”

It is an unusual posture for a nursing home, but Beatitudes is actually following some of the latest science. Research suggests that creating positive emotional experiences for Alzheimer’s patients diminishes distress and behavior problems. ...read the rest here
