Things that make me smile

Today's weather
The always happy and waving crossing guard in front of Kate Sullivan Elementary School every morning on my way to work.
The impending feel and smell of fall coming to town

Sweet kisses on the forehead and shoulder

and these kind of kisses too...

Rain drops keep falling on my head...

Well, technically, they are not "falling" on my head currently, but the weather in Tally has been wet lately. This has made the fact that I no longer posess rainboots only that more glaringly obvious. And with the advent of fall/winter looming ahead, I do believe it's time to once again invest in some adorable rainboots.

There is nothing, and I do mean nothing, that I hate more than having to walk around with soggy pants in cold weather. The cold in Tally is obviously not nearly as terrible as it is in the northern states, but damn, when it's a "wet cold" here it can be down right bone-chilling.

In a perfect world I would be getting some lovely Tretorn "Skerry Vinter" Boots. Preferably purple with fuzzy lining thankyouverymuch. Observe:

Now they are "only" $60 on Piperlime.com (gosh I wish I got paid to talk about them, I would be in heaven), but I still cannot rationalize spending that much on rainboots, no matter how adorable. So, target it is!

How precious are these?

and come on, the inner sorority girl in me is screaming over these....

But I think I should be a little more practical and just get some solid colored ones...maybe red? They'd still be spunky, but a little more practical then a whale pattern, haha.

Oh Target and your $24 boots, how I love thee!

Well, Dazzle me happy!

Today is a wonderours day, despite me having caught the sore throat/ cold from hell.

Today I got my first  order from ShoeDazzle in! I know, I know - Didn't I just write a blog about budgeting and being better with money? Well, if you know me, then you know that shoes are a great love of my life and that if i did NOT include a shoe budget for myself, would have been a crime I tell you, haha. In reality, as part of my plan to help me stick to my budget every month I signed up for Shoe Dazzle, this way I only buy one pair of shoes- at most- and keep my "shopping" budget under control. Can't shake a stick at a deal where everything being $39 bucks or under!

The Anticipation.....

Almost there!

Fabulous!!!

And fit like a glove!

Please ignore the funky angles of the photos of the shoes on my feet. very hard to get a good one without a big mirror laying around.

Each month when I get my new shoes from shoe dazzle I'll be sure to share. I'm in love!

That whole living on a "budget" thing

With every paycheck I get I am trying to become more thrifty, or budget controlled, one might say. The older I get, the more money I seem I have to spend. Pay my own rent? Yup. Pay for my own utilities? Yup. Student loans, unfortunately....yup. Never mind the the other important incidentals of life. No need to list them, we all know them.

So what did I decide to do? Well, at first it was creating the habit of constantly checking my bank account and making sure my work and home calenders were in sync with when bills, loans, and other items were due. I always immediately deduct money from my paycheck and do not even slightly indulge myself with the notion of, "Yay, money! Spend!". It was still easy to spend though. Isn't it always? But now I'm more motivated than ever to really get myself in check!

My friend suggested I start using Mint.com as my free online budget checker/follower/thing that shames me into submission.

This. Is. Awesome.

It works so well for what I need it for and it lets me arrange it very very specifically to my needs. Plus being able to load my bank information, credit cards, investments, and student loans all onto one page makes life so very much easier. I whole heartedly recommend everyone use something like this.

So, who's with me?

California - Part 3

To conclude my California adventures post I leave you with my miscellaneous, or random, pictures i took. Some I thought were hilarious, some cute, some just completely random.

The dog at the dog park named Falcor. Yes, like the Neverending story. The dog looked just like him!

Next are two shots I took while in Downtown Disney, Disneyland. I drank beer, ate ice cream, watched football and bought new shades. truly is the happiest place in the world!

This Car was parked outside the bakery we left one morning. I literally stopped in my tracks and doubled over with laughter. If you have ever been to Orange County California, this will make your day.

Wonderland Bakery. Probably the most retina scarring place I have ever been into, but damn if they dont make some reallllllyyyy good cupcakes!

Next photo is a shout out to my girl, Abby, because she ex-scaped (like what I did there?) Milwaukee.

and thus ends my random photos.

don't act like you didn't like it!

California - part 2

Since the Seminoles didn't get the win yesterday, I've decided to make myself feel better by continuing my California update.

Part of the trip was spent doing lots and lots of beer/drink sampling. Mostly it was Eric and myself doing the sampling, but Gena was happy to help with photography/ be our very kind driver.

First night of sampling came from a place called Slater's 50/50. The place is known for it's 1 pound, yes 1 pound, burger made from a half pound of beef STUFFED with a half pound of bacon on the inside. I did NOT partake in that, but Eric was happy to oblige.

Eric's burger

For our first sampling we ordered the "board of beer".

Guvna, Calico, Stone Anniversary Ale, and Allagash beer.

Next day was the Orange County International Food/Beer festival

I decided to stick to Germany and Mexico. Life was very good

The last day we went to San Clemente and a place called Pizza Port Brewery
Sadly my favorite beer I sampled there is ONLY a West Coast beer - Carlsbad Chronic Beer. Yes, I love Chronic beer. No more words are necessary...haha.

It was also confirmed I loathe Oatmeal Stouts - BLECK!

The after shot

California - Part 1

For the first part of my documenting my California travels I will have you step into my world as a breakfast crazy foodie lover. It started out as an accident/fun, then turned into a mission. My friend, Gena, and her husband, Eric, and I can all willingly admit we go a little crazy with the food/beer when we get together. This past trip it mostly about the food. I think I brought back with me 40 extra pounds - 20 in food weight and 20 in clothes I bought :)

Each morning we would have the wonderful task of deciding where would would we be starting our day. The first morning Gena and I went to our favorite spot to go together, Old Vine Cafe in Costa Mesa. Dear goodness! I could eat every single item on that menu, it's so unbelievably delicious. I didn't bring my fancy camera with me to the breakfasts in fear of getting food on it (i know, i'm paranoid), but Gena and I did manage to always take pics with our Droids :)

Gena's berry Crepe
My breakfast, the "open-faced" (think biscuits smothered in eggs, chicken sausage, gravy and then topped with spicy "queso") with a side of roasted potatoes - MMMM!

Day two- breakfast at Layer Cake Bakery

Gena's French toast with fresh berries (can you tell she loves berries?)

I had a panini breakfast sandwich with hashbrowns (while also furiously checking my droid for fsu football updates because of the time change)

and as a "toppper" a caramel canelle that Eric and I split.

Day three - Plums Cafe

Eric got an omelet, yes that's an omelet (a very fancy one) and Gena got a waffle, with (surprise, surprise, haha) berries)

I got Eggs Benedict and potatoes. the absolute best eggs benedict I have ever eaten!!!

Day Four - we went back to Old Vines Cafe, this time with Eric.

Gena got the crepe again, Eric got what i had gotten last time, the "open-faced", and I got the standard biscuits and gravy. very delicious

Morning five was spent eating leftovers form our adventures and figuring out how to space bag my clothes I had bought so I wouldn't have to check my extra bag I had gotten to carry all my new stuff :) Yeah, I was very bad.

Look for California part two soon....

Fierce lady, is Fierce

While I'm out of town, and possible out of touch while I'm in Cali, here's a post I'm saving to show while I'm gone. The new Bulgari ad featuring Julianne Moore as officially blown my mind with it's sexiness. Oh yeah.

You go Julianne Moore, you go!

MMMMM, fall tastes delicious!

If you know me, then you know I LOVE pumpkin spiced beer. No, seriously- I LOVE almost any kind of pumpkin type beer. I love it so much that when I saw the first shipment of Shipyard Pumpkinhead Beer in the store I literally jumped up and down and squealed like a 5 year old at Christmas. I'm a weirdo, I know this.

Besides the actual deliciousness of the beer, I also love all that comes along with it. Simply- the first sign of fall. This means cooler weather, football, bon fires, and general shenanigans. I mean, who doesn't love some good ole shenanigans once and awhile?

So in honor of my love and the beginning of the beer season....er....fall season, here's a list of my favorite
"pumpkin" spiced beers.

Shipyard Brewing Co. Pumpkinhead

Truly my favorite of all pumpkin beers. Smooth, delicious and it only being available in the fall makes it number one on my list, and plenty of other people's lists as well.

Magic hat #9 "Hex Ourtoberfest"
Brand new to the scene and making a huge headway is Magic Hat's latest and greatest. Went to a "launch" party for it last night and was very pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. Was I doubtful I wouldn't? No. I love all magic hat beers, but for it being a first year brew and to be so high on my list, yes, that was surprising.

Sam Adam's Octoberfest

I call this the "everyman" pumpkin beer. It's a great first time pumpkin beer drinker beer, and I recommend it to all who have never had a pumpkin beer and are wary of jumping to a new kind of beer.

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

This one I honestly can't decide what to say about. Do I think it's good enough to drink? Most definitely. Would I want to have more than one at a time? probably not. It's good, but not one I would ever want to drink "a lot" of. It has a high alcohol content and can have a bite, but still a good beer.

Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale

I dub this one the "poor man's" beer. it's a light weight in the pumpkin arena and will ONLY drink it if there are no other alternatives and I HAVE to have a pumpkin beer. It's alright, and that's all say about that.

There are many many other pumpkin ales out there, but these are the ones I love and have readily availbale to me whenever I want them. So enjoy all! have a pumpkin beer and think of me!

CHEERS!
